As of today, all of the currently released heroes inHeroes of Newerthwill be free for everyone. If you’ve ever played a free-to-play game — especially one that’s a multiplayer online battle arena — you’re able to likely sympathize with players who feel frustrated by characters or classes that are currency restricted, even if they are set up on a rotation.

“We agree with the community thatHoNis best played with a full hero pool available to all players and that both the new and the longtime, dedicated players alike can benefit from the change,” reads the announcement post from S2 Games. “We want players to have the freedom to invite their friends and to recommend heroes based on playstyle and not a free hero pool.”

Naturally, the focus shifts to long-time players who have purchased some of these now-free heroes. There’s aplan in place, but the short of it is this: anyone who bought a hero with gold coins will receive an exclusive Mecha Gemini Alt Avatar. Legacy players will get that as well, in addition to “an extra two silver coins for every ranked (i.e. non-Mid Wars) matchmaking game they play.” Nice moves, S2.
