Steve from Minecraft? Dante?
The time has come for Sakurai to give us a fully-fledged, 35-minute longSuper Smash Bros. UltimateDirect, where he will reveal the new DLC fighter: the fifth and final part of the first Fighter’s Pass. There’s more DLC already confirmed, but given that this is the end of the line for the initial salvo of add-ons, we could get a tease for a second pass today.
That last bit is speculation, of course. But if history is anything to go by, Sakurai will walk us through this next fighter step by step, showcasing all of their moves in the process, as well as fluff like costumes and taunts. We should also get to see the new stage and a taste of the musical arrangements, as well as a sneak peek at more Mii costumes and the next major update forUltimate.
But who is that fifth fighter? The most prevalent guess is Dante fromDevil May Cry. Exhibit A isthis tweet from the officialDevil May CryTwitter account, which notes that you should “mark January 16, January 30 and February 13 on your calendars.” Well, the first date is…today!
Of course, there’s always the option for aDevil May CryMii outfit set and music from the game. But I doubt that Capcom would want to play with fire like that. The days of Capcom putting out fires on a daily basis from last generation are mostly behind them.
