Best of 2013

Oh my god this was an amazing year for gaming. There were so many extraordinary releases from studios big and small that I may never have a chance to play them all — talk about a wonderful, lucky “problem” to have!

But of course, at the end of the day, only one game can take home the coveted Destructoid Community Choice Award. So after a week ofintense voting, debating, and a surprising lack of name-calling, we are finally ready to unveilyourpick for the best game of 2013. ARE YOU AS EXCITED AS I AM?!

And the winner is…

The Last of Us

I’ve made no attempt to mask my absolute adoration for Naughty Dog’s dismal tale of survival and redemption. It was my favorite gameto grace the PlayStation 3, as well as myfavorite gaming momentof the year. Jim Sterling was equally impressed, awarding it a 10 out of 10 inour official review. In my mind, it is as close to perfection as a videogame can get, and many, many of you agreed with that sentiment; in fact,The Last of Usreceived more votes thanBioShock Infinite,Super Mario 3D World, andGrand Theft Auto Vcombined!

So congratulations to Sony Computer Entertainment and Naughty Dog, winners of the 2013 Destructoid Game of the Year Community Choice Award! And thank you, from all of us who had the chance to enjoy your beautiful creation.
