How to complete Fires in the Mine in Avowed

Let’s start off with the first part of the Fires in the Mine quest. Your job here is simple, find and destroy two spider nests located in the mine.

The mine can be difficult to navigate, but if you follow your quest markers, you should be able to find both spider nests without too much of a dilemma. Both spider nests come with dozens of spider enemies, so you need to clear them out before attempting to destroy the nests.

The nests themselves are located high up on the walls of the mine and they are surrounded by massive amounts of spider webs. To destroy the nests, throw a Magran’s Fury grenade at the middle part of the nest or use a fire spell from a Grimoire of the Elements book.

Once you’ve managed to destroy both nests, head out the same way you came into the mine by following the quest marker on your map. you’re able to also choose to explore the mine a little more, as there are several chests and a couple of unique items to find throughout its narrow pathways and secret rooms.

Should you blow up the mine in Avowed?

As you approach the exit to the mine, you’ll find a soldier who wants to speak with you. The soldier’s name is Darle and he’s been sent into the mine with one clear goal: to blow it up. According to Darle, this is the best way to avoid war between Thirdborn and the Aedyrans. The mine holds plenty of explosive properties and if one side were to get their hands on the mine’s benefits, the war would be extremely one-sided. By destroying the mine, no side gets to use explosives against the another.

Of course, you’re given a choice after Darle explains why he should blow up the mine. You can either allow Darle to complete his mission or kill him to prevent the mine’s demise.

Choosing to blow up the mine

If you allow Darle to blow up the mine, you and your party rush out of the mine as quickly as possible. Darle sacrifices himself to accomplish his goal and the mine explodes shortly after you exit it.

When the mine explodes, you return to speak with Ilena and Seyon, who ask you why you allowed Darle to blow up the mine. You can choose to lie or tell the truth, but it doesn’t matter in the end, as both parties are furious at you for allowing the mine to be destroyed. After you speak with them, the Fires in the Mine quest ends and you’ll earn just over 1,000 XP

Choosing to kill Darle and leave the mine

On the other hand, if you don’t want to blow up the mine, you may kill Darle and then walk out of the mine normally. Speak with Ilena and Seyon outside the mine and choose to tell them the truth about what happened inside or lie about it. Your best bet here is to tell the truth, as both parties believe your story and choose to walk away from the mine amicably.

Your reward for taking this path is close to 1,000 XP and 900 Skeyt. If you lie about Darle and the mine, you won’t receive these rewards.

In the end, it’s up to you whether or not to blow up the mine. Your choice doesn’t make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things, but you’ll technically earn more rewards if you kill Darle and then come clean to Ilena and Seyon about what happened in the mine. However, seeing the mine blow up is also a cool sequence, so pick whatever you want.
