Claims wholeheartedly that Gearbox developed the game

Shortly before the embargo broke onAliens: Colonial Marinesreviews, a potential explanation for the game’s woeful quality begun to surface. According to reports, Gearbox Software outsourced the solo campaign to TimeGate Studios (and possibly other studios) and focused only on multiplayer. An interesting development — except SEGA says it’s not true!

Dark Side of Gamingquotes an emphatic denial from a SEGA spokesperson who, atCM‘s launch party, confirmed Gearbox had a dominant hand in all areas of development. TimeGate helped, the representative explains, but wasn’t a primary developer.

“Absolutely not, the game has been developed by Gearbox Software,” said the rep, when asked ifAlienswas outsourced. “Other studios [like Timegate] helped Gearbox on the production of single and multiplayer.”

So, that’s SEGA’s official line. It’ll be interesting to see if any official explanation is given forColonial Marines‘ shocking release, because I’d say one is definitely required at this point.
