A number of people would have been disappointed to learn that Epic changed its mind about offering the retroFalloutgames for free via its store. However, some good news is on the horizon, as the company will launch them as part of its storefront giveaways.Just not yet.

According to a recent report fromIGN, Epic has been in touch with the publication to say the classicFalloutreleases will be up for grabs “later this year.” A spokesperson confirmed that the first two games plusFallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steelwill be included.

The original plan was to have all three available on Epic Games Store between February 22 and February 29. However, it was quietly pulled, being replaced bySuper Meat Boy.

Some love is needed for these cult hits

It’s a bit of a shame we don’t exactly know when they’ll be available for free. All we know is that it’ll be sometime this year. At least it’s happening at all, given that fans had the rug pulled out from underneath them recently.

There’s a good chance a lot of people reading this have only experiencedFallout 3and beyond. When Bethesda took over the franchise for the 2008 installment, the series went from having more of a cult status on PC to being a mainstream, AAA release.

As and when the older games do become free on Epic Games Store, I would urge you to try them out. They’re a different beast to the Bethesda entries, but it will give you a greater appreciation of just whatFalloutused to be like.
