Yesterday, EA sent over this Robert Duvall developer diary forThe Godfather II. It’s pretty standard fare — Joel Wade, the game’s Senior Producer, interviews Duvall about his film role and his opinion on aspects of the videogame — but it’s worth watching if you like Duvall as an actor, which I do.

It makes me immensely happy when actors — especially revered thespians like Robert Duvall — reprise their screen roles in videogame adaptations of the films or TV shows in which they appeared. Aside from the obvious authenticity factor of actually having Duvall voice Tom Hagen inThe Godfather II, it’s great to see such a talented performer do a voice-over for a videogame, since so many screen actors seem to believe that they’re “above” the medium we hold so dear.

Hell, not only does Duvall talk about what it’s like to be Tom Hagen and how to be a Don, he also praises the virtues ofThe Godfather II— apart from merely noting that “it’s […] exciting that a new generation will be introduced” to the wonderful world ofThe Godfather, he goes as far as to say that “[the game is] a fun thing.” I’m not necessarily saying that we need videogames to be legitimized or anything, but it’s good to see this nonetheless.

Be sure to keep an eye out for an upcoming preview ofThe Godfather II, courtesy of Hamza. If you’re able to’t wait and need to read about the game right now, though, you can check out an old one from Augusthere. You can also hit up the game’sofficial Web sitefor even more information.
