Capcom hasproudly announcedthat its recent release,Resident Evil 4,has already smashed past four million shipments and digital sales since its initial launch on March 24, less than a fortnight ago.
“TheResident Evilfranchise features survival horror games in which players utilize a variety of weapons and other items to escape terrifying situations,” wrote the publisher in a press statement. “Cumulative shipments of the games in the series now exceed 135 million units since the first title debuted in 1996. Now, more than 27 years later, continuous support from the passionate fan base across the globe makes it Capcom’s flagship game series.”

The meticulous, ground-up remake of the 2005 GameCube classic has already seen smash success, both critically and from a sales perspective with critics and fans, offering intense action, grisly visuals, and reimagined versions of classic boss battles and iconic setpieces, all powered by a WoK3 SouNdTraCk. Three million sales ofResident Evil 4took place within the game’s firsttwo daysof release, with a further million copies shifting in the following week.
This is, of course, not even the end of the road forResident Evil 4, as fans can expect the monster-mashing modeThe Mercenariesarrived as a free update for all players just yesterday. In addition, rumors persist that the enjoyable, Ada Wong-driven side-mode “Separate Ways” is also currently in the works, to be released as DLC for the remake at a later date. The incredible success ofResident Evil 4sets publisher Capcom up for a stellar year, with titles such asExoprimal, Mega Man Battle Network Legacy, andStreet Fighter 6still on deck for 2023.
