No news is good news?

Last weekend we posteda little historical review of  timesthat Nintendo created digital or physical limited edition products that they could have also sold through conventional retail channels, but instead chose to release as exclusive free gifts and rewards. The idea is that, given Nintendo’s history, it’s not a sure thing the company will sell its upcoming MewtwoSmash Bros. Wii U/3DS DLC at a later date. It could go either way.

Some spirited community members took issue with that ambivalence, statingNintendo of Europe’s tweetmeans it will be selling the Mewtwo DLC at some point. Emphasizing the DLC will be free for a limited time is just a backwards way of saying that they’re planning to sell it after that, right?

That may be the case. If so, Nintendo doesn’t want you to know it, at least not yet. When asked to clarify if the tweet meant that the DLC would ever be made available for purchase, a company representative stated “Sadly, Nintendo has nothing to announce at this time regarding Mewtwo. But thanks for checking!” Nintendo did confirm one thing though — no one gives a more warm and friendly “no comment” than Nintendo.

Nintendo said something similar when I asked if Amiibo would becompatible withHyrule Warriors. At the time they wouldn’t confirm or deny. A few months later, it announced the gamewould indeedbe Amiibo compatible. Goes to show that like most big publishers, Nintendo isn’t going to pull back the curtain on their plans until it’s good and ready. In the meantime, we’ll just have to wait andspeculate.
