Warner Bros. has released a new “Red Band” trailer for its upcoming animated sequelMortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms, which launches on digital and Blu-Ray formats August 31.

From the (NSFW) red band trailer, we can ascertain that the follow-up to 2020’sScorpion’s Revengewill loosely follow the events ofMortal Kombat II, as Outworld emperor Shao Kahn challenges Earthrealm to a “winner takes all” Mortal Kombat tournament — with an eye to conquering not just Earthrealm, butallof the known realms. In a dual-storyline, Hanzo Hasashi, now adopting the form of colossal bore Scorpion, will embark upon his own quest to search for the legendary Kamidogu.

MK IIveterans Kitana,Mileena, Jade, Kintaro, and Kung Lao are among those joining the cast, as areMK 3‘s Kurtis Stryker, and robo-assassins Sektor and Cyrax. Flying for the flag for laterMKentries areDeadly Alliance‘s Li Mei, andMortal Kombat X‘s D’Vorah. What an all-star kast! (In before Sindel is revealed as a post-kredits stinger.) Oh, we also see what appears to be the second Sub-Zero, Kuai Liang.Battle of the Realmslooks set to treat the source material with respect, with more than a touch ofMasters of the Universeabout it.
