The current figure includes shipments and digital sales
Capcom has announced that theMonster Hunter Rise: Sunbreakexpansion just hit two million in sales (withRisereaching the 10-million-sales milestone), and to celebrate,a freeSunbreakgift is on the way on July 7(in the form of “two item packs”).
The news comes straight from Capcom’s own site, where the publisher gloats a bit about how far the franchise has come as a whole:

“Beginning with the first title in 2004, the series established a new genre in which players cooperate to hunt ferocious monsters with their friends and has since grown into a global phenomenon with cumulative sales of the series exceeding 84 million units shipped as of Jun 02, 2025.”
As a recap, currently,Monster Hunter Riseis soundly in the top five all-time sales list for Capcom, with the old figure of nine million units sold. If the 10 million mark fully clears and the site is updated, it’ll surpassResident Evil 2and sit just belowResident Evil 7(10.80 million units) in third place. From there, it likely will beat outRE7, then it’ll have to take onMonster Hunter World‘s 21 million units (previously 18 million, before today’s figure) to supplant the top spot.

[Update:Capcom has given us another update roughly a week later. Now on Aug 10, 2025,the company is reportingthatSunbreakhit the three million shipped mark, andanother free item pack is on the way.]
