AlthoughCall of Duty: Modern Warfareis asoft rebootof sorts, it stays true to one of the non-features of the originalCall of Dutygames. WhenModern Warfarelaunches this October, it won’t have the Zombies mode that has become ever-popular inCall of Dutycooperative multiplayer.
Speaking withPlayStation Lifestyleat the recent reveal event,Modern Warfare‘s campaign gameplay director Jacob Minkoff explained why there won’t be zombies in this game. “Because [theBlack Opsgames] focus on more of the stylized, graphic novel, superhero experience, they can have the much more ‘out there’ different types of gameplay in their games. But for us, we’re trying to create an authentic, realistic feeling world. We don’t have the flexibility to do something like put zombies in the game. That would compromise the feeling of playing in a world that feels realistic and authentic and relative to today’s conflicts and things we face,” he said.

Infinity Ward isn’t a stranger to zombies, though. In 2016,Infinite Warfarehad a Zombies mode. However, that game also had space battles, which certainly flies in the face of the current day realism angle that Minkoff talks about inModern Warfare. Thus, Activision’s taking a year off from Zombies. InModern Warfare, the dead stay dead.
