What does Luck of the Far Realms Ability Do?

Luck of the Far Realms is a reaction ability that triggers when players succeed onan attack roll. Once per long rest, players can choose to turn their attack into a critical hit instead and deal major damage. This can trigger automatically, but has more utility when the reaction is set to ask before triggering.

Due to its long rest cooldown, the best use for this ability is typically to stack it with other high-damage, maneuvers such as Smites. Spellcasters also benefit from this as long as the spell uses attack rolls to confirm a hit. Spells that use saves will not work with LotFR as it requires an attack roll to trigger.

With a few optimizations, this can give physical attack classes like Fighter orthe fan favorite Paladinthe ability to pump out some major damage during boss fights or end a battle quickly. Ready to get the ability and don’t know how? Here’s a bit on the process for obtaining it.

How to Unlock This Illithid Power

Luck of the Far Realms is only obtainable after unlocking the pre-requisite ranks in the Illithid skill tree. Luckily, pun intended, choking down two parasites is the price of entry for this admittedly very situational ability. The ability to obtain Illithid powers unlocks as the story progresses. If the option isn’t there yet, players must wait until a bit into Act 1.

Power does come at a cost; however, when the player consumes more parasites, related narrative choices become more challenging. Without spoiling too much, it’s essential to consider whether the consequences that come later in the adventure are worth the reward. What’s cool, though, is Luck of the Far Realms works on any kind of damage, includingnon-lethal attacksso it blends nicely with multiple playstyles.
