How to grab and break grabs in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

After getting close to a standing or laid-down opponent inDragon Ball Sparking Zero, you can perform a grab/throw by pressing R1+◻/RB+X (if playing on Standard) or double pressing X/A (if on Classic). In the same fashion, you can counter your opponent’s throw by tapping guard (R1/RB on Standard and O/B on Classic) at the moment they begin the animation. After you counter the move, your opponent will be pushed back, thus allowing you to rush in or blast them to oblivion.

As you can guess, countering a throw can prove to be a challenge when in the heat of battle. Luckily, though, the largest portion of the game’s cast have similar if not identical grab animations, which makes practicing against it a pretty easy affair. You can practice breaking throws/grabs inDragon Ball Sparking Zeroby heading to the game’s Battle Training and then selecting Throw Evasion.

It’s also important to point out that depending on your matchup inSparking Zero, a character’s standard grab will be replaced by a completely new one based on scenes from the source material. An example of that can be seen when grabbing Final Form Frieza with Goku (Mid), Perfect Cell with Super Saiyan 2 Teen Gohan, and Super Saiyan RoséGoku Blackwith Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Vegeta, the latter of which will prompt the Saiyan Prince to reenact one ofDragon Ball Super‘s coolest sequences.
