Being aHollow Knightfan has its ups and downs regardingSilksong. The game initially launched in 2017, and in February 2019, Team Cherry revealed a teaser trailer for the sequel. Aside from occasional hints at its potential release date, not much more is known about this title.
Until now, that is.Silksong’swishlist count grows every time an industry event rolls around. And every time, fans of the original wind up feeling disappointed. However, as of the April 2025 Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, that has all changed.

Is there a release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong?
Hollow Knight: Silksonghas a confirmed release window of sometime in2025.During the April Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, a brief three-second clip showed 2025 as its expected launch year. Although this didn’t include any extensive gameplay showcases, this short video is all the information we need to confirm that the odds of it coming out this year are high.
Although this release year dropped during the direct, that doesn’t mean it’s immune to delays. Back in May of 2023, developer Team Cherry’s PR and marketing representative Matthew Griffin wrote ina Twitter (X) postthat they initially planned to releaseSilksongin the first half of 2023. However,Hollow Knight’ssequel was subsequently delayeddue to its increasingly large scope.

“We’re excited by how the game is shaping up, and it’s gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can,” said Griffin.
At the time of writing, there’s no confirmed release day or month forHollow Knight: Silksong. With its appearance in the Switch Direct in mind, it may not be out until after June, so it can launch on multiple platforms. Alternatively, it may come out on platforms like PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X/S before coming to others later.

What else do we know about Hollow Knight: Silksong?

We also know the protagonist won’t be The Knight, as in the original game. Rather, players will control Hornet, the deuteragonist ofHollow Knight.

According to aninfo sheet by Team Cherry, the game begins with Hornet being “captured and brought to this unfamiliar land.” Players will “battle foes and solve mysteries as [Hornet] ascends on a deadly pilgrimage to the kingdom’s peak.” InSilksong, there will be more than 150 new enemies to take down as you make your way to the top of the world. Thankfully, you’ll have access to “a whole new suite of nimble moves” to make quick work of them.
Once you complete the game, you’re able to take advantage of Silk Soul mode. This is an “all-new mode that spins the game into a unique, challenging experience.”
