The mass exodus of formerly exclusive Xbox franchises continues today, withGears of Warbeing the latest to make its way to PS5.
Gears of War: Reloadedis a remastered version of the 2006 classic, and it’s coming to PlayStation for the first time along with Xbox and PC when it launches later this summer with a suite of visual and technical upgrades, Microsoftannouncedtoday.

Gearswill join other Xbox franchises likeForza,Sea of Thieves, and others debuting on the rival platform, and it sounds like it’ll be a real pretty version of the game that launched the successful third-person shooter series almost 20 years ago.
Gears of War: Reloadedwill support 4K resolution, 60 FPS in the campaign, 120 FPS in eight-player multiplayer, HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, 3D Spatial Audio, VRR, remastered textures, 4K assets, enhanced post-processing, and zero loading screens during the campaign. And yeah, you’ll be able to play the game cross-platform with anyone on any console or PC, too.

To compensate those who bought 2015’sGears of War: Ultimate Editionremaster,Reloadedwill be a free upgrade for those who already own it, and it will also be a day-one Game Pass Ultimate game. But for PS5 players who feel as though they have been missing out, now’s the time for them to join the locust-slaying party.
Next year will markGears of War’s20th anniversary, so this sort of announcement makes a lot of sense. I’m sure there’s even more that Microsoft and Xbox have up their sleeves for Gears in the future, including the upcomingGears of War: E-Dayprequel, which now looks destined for PS5 eventually, too.

Gears of War: Reloadedwill launch on Aug. 26 at a discounted price of $39.99 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, Steam, Game Pass Ultimate, and PC Game Pass.
