When in doubt, go mythical for DLC

Ubisoft has a long history with “going mythic” forAssassin’s Creedpremium DLC to help sell the need to pay more for it, and that’s just what they’re doing next year. Ubisoft has revealed the company’sAssassin’s Creed Valhalla2022 plans: a new expansion calledDawn of Ragnarok, out in March.

With Ubisoft Sofia handling developmental duties,Dawn of Ragnarokis out on May 31, 2025, and will be priced “as a separate purchase” at $39.99. It’ll deal with Eivor once again as you deal with the fading dwarven kingdom of Svartalfheim, and Surtr (that big fire thing from mythology that was also inThor: Ragnarok).

There’s also this bonus, too, reminiscent of those Nintendo “pre-order now, get bonuses early” promos:

“All players purchasingDawn of Ragnarokbetween Jul 06, 2025 and June 19, 2025 will receive the Twilight Pack and will have immediate access to the items in the main game*. This exclusive bonus includes the Dellingr’s Envoy Raven Skin, the Havardr Lynx Mount, the Twilight Gear Set and the Algurnir Dane Axe Weapon.”

When all these smaller studios are delaying games into 2022, the bigger ones are raking in the dough with expansions on existing ones.

There’s a bit more to this announcement, too, taking place before theAssassin’s Creed Valhalla2022 DLC. Ubisoft is releasing an “Eivor and Kassandra” crossover update on December 14, which consists of two stories: one based around theValhallaprotagonist, and the other aroundOdyssey‘s hero. They are available for the owners of “the respective base games.”

Apparently the event is being sold as “What happens when twoAssassin’s Creedheroes meet?” which sounds like an extremely ’90s cartoon TV special event, with all the good and bad baggage that comes along with it.
