[Every month we post a new art assignment for the Dtoid community. Fun! You have untilFriday, August 31stto finish this month’s project, which is detailed at the end of the post!]

For July’s Artists Wanted assignment, we asked you to take your favorite videogame characters and completely flip them on their heads in a bit of aROLE REVERSAL. What if Kratos was the god of love instead of the god of growling and bodypaint? What if Sonic and Tails were eaten by giant hot dogs? What if Peach was into hardcore BDSM?

Wait, some of those don’t sound right. Oh well, I’m sure it’s nothing. Keep reading to see some totally non-disturbing examples of ART!

Our first submission this month is “Chili Dogs” byZombiePlatypus. Here’s what he had to say about this artistic piece of artsy art that he arted with his art tools:

A battle scene in Battlefield 6 Open Beta

So it’s notreallyfrom a videogame, but rather based on a cartoon based on a videogame. You all remember how much Sonic and Tails loved eating chili dogs in the goofier of their ’90s cartoons, yeah? Like the Ninja Turtles and their pizza, Sega’s mascots were addicted to chili dogs. So for my role reversal I simply made those two the entree.

As if a chili dog could ever catchSonic. Thanks, ZP!

Next up is “Beast of Burden” byMeanderBot. Here’s a bit about his creative process:

We tend to take advantage of the kindness of others, especially when it comes to characters in videogames. Take Yoshi, for example. Without asking for a thing in return, he selflessly carries you on his back for countless miles, aiding you in your epic journey. And how do we repay him? Make him eat obviously hazardous materials, like cacti, spiny turtles and freaking FIREBALLS? And anyone who says they had never damned their reptilian friend to a bottomless pit to save their own hide is a dirty liar. So with that said, I’ll leave you with this: What goes around, comes around.

Finally, justice is served. Thanks, MeanderBot!

Our next submission is “Pik-People” byshaxam1029. Here’s what he had to say about his piece:

I always though that the concept ofPikminwas a little bit terrifying. Throwing alien creatures at other alien creatures until one of them eventually died? How messed up would it be if two aliens landed on earth and started rounding humans up as weapons?

A snap of the upcoming MESA update in PEAK

That’s the stuff nightmares are made of. Thanks, shaxam1029!

Next up for July is “Peach Fiction: Bring out the Gumba” byRoberto Plankton. Here’s what he had to say about the new background image on my phone:

Bowser wants Mario to invade his every castle and to climb his flagpoles.

Naked Snake sneaking around in MGS Delta.

There was more to it than that, but that line pretty much summed it up. Thanks, Roberto Plankton!

The next few artists didn’t have much to say about their work, but that doesn’t make them any less deserving of recognition!

What an awesome month! Thanks to everyone who contributed!

And now, onto August. For this month, I’d like you to think about what it means to be aBOSSin the world of videogames. Often, the word “boss” is used as a synonym for “villain”; but does ithaveto be?

I won’t say any more for fear of leading you down a certain line of thinking. As always, let your mind go wild!

To see your art appear on the front page, simplywrite a Community Blogand title it “BOSS: [Title]”. In the blog, post your art and a bit about the process that went into making it. At the end of the month we’ll gather them all up and put them on the front page!

I can’t wait to see what you people come up with this time around. Now go create something!
