It’s a hit (it’s a holiday)

If the deluge ofOverwatchpornwasn’t enough indication, Blizzard’sTeam Fortress 2-with-waifus first-person shooter is a hit. The company announced, “more than 7 million players have fought for the future inOverwatch, logging more than 119 million hours combined in one of the most successful global game launches of all time.”

That’s suspiciously short of Blizzard announcing it hassold7 million copies across PC, PS4, and Xbox One since it launched a week ago.  Maybe a few people have lent the disc to their 14 brothers. But it’s still impressive.

It’s also already surprisingly near the record-breaking9.7 millionpeople that played the beta, and just a week in. For context, though it only launched on PS4,Uncharted 4sold2.7 millioncopies in its first week and that was considered to be a rousing success.

Of course, if you are not among the 7 million playingOverwatch, you may save your holier-than-thou look, given that most of the planet’s 7billionpopulation is also not playingOverwatchright now. It’s actuallymore hipto be playingOverwatch.
