But first, a remake of Abe’s Exoddus
In a candid discussion about sales expectations for Just Add Water’sOddworld: Abe’s Oddyseeremake,Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty, creator Lorne Lanning toldEurogamerthat if 250,000 copies of the game are sold, that’ll be enough funding for a remake of its sequelAbe’s Exoddus. Going a step forward, 500k in sales would allow for the creation of an all-new, originalOddworldtitle.
Sounds attainable enough, I’d say. Though it should be pointed outNew ‘n’ Tastywill charge $30 when it releases, which might be more than you were expecting. “This game will play better, look better, and you’ll have more fun with for more hours of play than games you’re paying $60 for,” said Lanning. “That’s a promise. And I can say that with absolute confidence. If this had a publisher, the price would be higher and they’d be calling in triple A.”

As for the potential new game, it would come after theExoddusremake — assuming that moves forward — and Lanning would like to one day revisit the concept behind the canceledThe Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot. “Over the last year and a half, I’ve designedFangusextensively,” he said. “And I would like to be able to move into Fangus as soon as a new IP inOddworld.”
It’s wild to me that Just Add Water has been able to keep theOddworldfranchise going for all these years. Good on them.
