Overwatch’s new beta build is good news for the game’s future

Really looking forward to this Overwatchis shaping up. I really enjoyed my time with it back in October, but as of this newest closed beta build, it’s clear that the team knows what they’re doing. This week, they added in one simple upgrade that made a lot of people happy —player progression. Now just by playing you’ll earn new rewards, separate from any sort of character-centric requirements. It’s a great change....

Ah Ditto, the “transform Pokémon” with the creepy little dots for eyes and the power to become literally any other Pokémon. Is it any wonder that this living amorphous blob proves elusive toPokémon GO? Ditto is the master of disguise. At any time, it can transform into any other Pokémon, and that can pose a problem if you hunt it inPokémon GO. Thankfully, Niantic has made itslightlyeasier by limiting the number of Pokémon that Ditto can become, although this list does change every so often....

Project X Zone 2 is more of the same, with new faces

Your mileage will vary Based on the reception toProject X Zone 2, it’s clear to see that it’s a “hate it or love it” affair. Fans seemed to really take to the idea of playing as a cavalcade of heroes from some of their favorite franchises, but others decried the overly simplistic, grindy nature of the game. They’re both right. But often times it’s the simple pleasures in life that put a smile on my face, like the act of calling out Captain Commando to help Dante and Vergil blast B....

PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold won’t be needed after the free-to-play switchover PUBGheld on asa premium gamelonger than I ever would’ve expected, especially as the battle royale landscape has matured, but in 2022, it’s finally shifting to a free-to-play model. Announced last night at The Game Awards 2021, Kraftonplans to turnPUBGinto a free-to-play game on Jul 20, 2025 — that goes for the PC and console versions. School Girl Zombie Hunter English trailer suggests localization, but is absolutely NSFW

Zom-Zoms are icky The only thing that irritates me more than changing iconic hats is when in zombie-related media people refuse to refer to them as just “zombies.” No, they have to try ever so hard to avoid the term, preferring phrases like “those…those…things!” or “creatures.” Rather than the desired effect of immersing us into the world more, this dedicated eschewal of the term conversely takes me out of the story completely....

Smash Bros. pro Zero has finally had his 53 tournament win streak broken

Time to cash in on that bounty You might remember back in May the news that aSmash Bros.playerhad a bounty put ontheir head. If anyone could beat Gonzale “Zero” Barrios in aSmash Bros.tournament, they’d be paid $500. At the time, he had won 34 tournaments (not rounds, tournaments) after rising up out of nowhere. Finally, after a whopping 53 tournaments won and a streak lasting roughly 11 months, Zero has fallen. Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada beat him at the MLG Finals....

Someone turned Breaking Bad into a PS1 game

Walter and Jesse never looked so… pixelated Breaking Badis one of those shows that’s so good, it remains relevant almost a decade after it goes off the air. As its legacy lives on, I have to wonder if it’ll ever get a true video game adaptation, maybe as aGTA-style open world, or a Telltale-style narrative adventure. There’s a lot of potential there, but for now, we can continue to imagine the possibilities to tide us over....

Super Mario 3D All-Stars has a day one update that smooths a few things over

All the small things In this era of day one patches, one would expect some bigger Nintendo games to get huge, multi-GB updates to basically patch in the entire game twice over: but that’s thankfully not the case forSuper Mario 3D All-Stars, or a lot of first-party Nintendo games, for that matter. Today version 1.0.1 was released, which only adjusts a few minor things. As usual the wording is very vague (thanks Nintendo!...
